Cambridge West Innovation District.
The home of extraordinary innovation
Cambridge West is a new innovation district developed by the University of Cambridge, designed to bring together research, enterprise and industry within a single, connected ecosystem. Built on one of the world’s most successful science clusters, the project responds to a clear challenge. While Cambridge leads globally in research and discovery, its full innovation potential is not yet fully connected or realised.
Our role was to define a clear strategic narrative and positioning for Cambridge West. One that could unify academic excellence, commercial activity and entrepreneurship, while attracting global partners and investment. We positioned Cambridge West as the home of world changing innovation. A place where ideas move more quickly from discovery into real world impact.
At the heart of the strategy is a simple idea. Innovation happens at the intersection, not in isolation. Cambridge West is designed as a curated ecosystem where researchers, businesses and entrepreneurs work side by side to solve complex global challenges. The identity draws from the visual language of experimental physics, where interactions are understood through traces rather than fixed forms. In particle detectors, collisions produce bursts of energy that radiate outward as a series of recorded paths.
The scale of the opportunity is significant. The Cambridge cluster includes over 5,000 knowledge intensive companies and generates tens of billions in turnover, with Cambridge West acting as a gateway to this ecosystem. The result is a clear and compelling foundation for brand, placemaking and long term development, positioning Cambridge West as a new global model for innovation.
